GLO Position statement

The founders of Got Lamp Oil (GLO) preparedness forum would like to make a formal statement on our position in relation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and other preparedness forums that are on the web that are run by members of the LDS Church.

►GLO Affiliation: GLO is not affiliated, part of, or sponsored by the LDS Church. GLO is a private, free preparedness forum for anyone looking to share information about last days preparations.

►GLO Forum: GLO is a moderated forum and reserves the right to alter, remove, or delete posted information if it is not in harmony with the teachings of the LDS Church, or deemed by the moderating staff as inappropriate. GLO takes the position that polygamists, apostates and their supporters (within and without the Church) are in error. We also believe the living Prophet and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have all of the keys and are the Lord's only authorized servants to declare policies and doctrines for the Church. GLO does not endorse, condone, or look favorably on any other web site that publishes or allows to be published anything contrary to the teachings and doctrines of the LDS Church.

►GLO Beliefs: Joel 2:28 proclaims:

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: In chapter 16 in the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church - Joseph Smith said:

It is contrary to the economy of God for any member of the Church, or any one, to receive instructions for those in authority, higher than themselves; therefore you will see the impropriety of giving heed to them;but if any person have a vision or a visitation from a heavenly messenger, it must be for his own benefit and instruction; for the fundamental principles, government, and doctrine of the Church are vested in the keys of the kingdom. The founders of GLO believe that many in and out of the LDS Church have received such dreams and visions. These are special gifts to those who receive them and are for the profit of those who receive them. Considering the sacred nature of such experiences, the founders of GLO feel that such experiences should not be posted. Such posting on a public forum will devalue the experience for the person who received such, and could lead to mockery or confusion for those to whom the experience was not intended. All personal dreams and visions are subject to the personal interpretation of those who receive them. We believe in them, we pray for them, we rejoice when we get them, but we do not post them on a public forum.

►GLO Doctrinal Position: GLO does not condone the public gathering and publishing for sale the dreams and visions of their members. We feel that it is a mockery of sacred experiences and is priestcraft by definition.

2 Nephi 26:29

He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts, for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.GLO does not condone the practice of providing "further light and knowledge" in secret, private forums that fall outside the current teachings of the LDS Church. One such extra-doctrine is the teaching of "tent cities" and a members "call-out" akin to a "Mormon rapture" (Those called out will be spared the tribulations and cleansing of the Utah area).

Boyd K. Packer states:
We can live where we wish, doing the best we can to make a living, whether modest or generous. We are free to do as we wish with our lives, assured of the approval and even the intervention of the Almighty, confident of constant spiritual guidance. Each stake is a defense and a refuge and a standard. A stake is self-contained with all that is needed for the salvation and exaltation of those who would come within its influence, and temples are ever closer. (November 2006 Ensign - A Defense and a Refuge)James E. Faust states:
The stake president is also a constitutional officer of the Church, for he presides over the stake which the Lord has said ?may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm, and from wrath when it shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth. The stakes are the curtains or the strength of Zion. They are to be spiritual centers of righteousness, strength, and protection. (May 1995 Ensign - Responsibilities of Shepherds)D&C 115:6

And that the gathering together upon the land of Zion, and upon her stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm, and from wrath when it shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth.GLO believes that this type of speculation has caused real fear and panic among those that read these forums and publications. This fear and panic has caused some to cash in pension plans and retirement savings, or go into debt to purchase their supplies for tent city life. This panic purchasing is not in harmony with the doctrine of prudency taught by the prophet. We believe that those responsible for the financial burdens placed on those who have acted outside the bounds of prudence in order to qualify for the call to tent cities will be held accountable for their actions. GLO does not believe in fear and panic tactics to preach preparedness to the LDS community. We look to the leaders of the LDS Church to guide us in this endeavor. GLO believes that those who are proponents of such teachings have placed themselves outside the accepted teaching of the church. We warn those who participate on such forums of this reality.

Elder Boyd K. Packer Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said:

Since I touched upon the subject of gathering of the Saints, I must read a verse from the Doctrine and Covenants:

I say unto you, that it shall not be given to any one to go forth to preach my gospel, or to build up my church, except he be ordained by some one who has authority, and it is known to the church that he has authority and has been regularly ordained by the heads of the church.(D&C 42:11.)

There are some among us now who have not been regularly ordained by the heads of the Church and who tell of impending political and economic chaos, the end of the world something of the "sky is falling, chicken licken" of the fables. They are misleading members to gather to colonies or cults.

Those deceivers say that the Brethren do not know what is going on in the world or that the Brethren approve of their teaching but do not wish to speak of it over the pulpit. Neither is true. The Brethren, by virtue of traveling constantly everywhere on earth, certainly know what is going on, and by virtue of prophetic insight are able to read the signs of the times.

Do not be deceived by them those deceivers. If there is to be any gathering, it will be announced by those who have been regularly ordained and who are known to the Church to have authority. (November 1992 Ensign - To Be Learned Is Good If...)
►GLO Fees: GLO believes that preparedness information should be distributed free of charge to those seeking to learn. There will never be a fee to join the GLO community.

►Best way to Prepare: The best way to prepare for the coming events that will usher in the return of the Savior of the world, even Jesus Christ is to develop faith in Christ, repent of your sins, and come unto Him with full purpose of heart. Make yourself right before the Lord. Only then will you have the faith to not fear. Being prepared is an outcome of that faith.
