I'm taking a break from any heavy prepping this month.

I'll continue to store water, juice, bleach - liquids. I just received a large order from EE (6 cases), got 2 more cases from my Farmer's Market (chow chow and corn relish) and got a pretty big order from Prepared Pantry.

My poor husband has been patient as a lamb - never says a word about me stockpiling food/water and spending $$, but he's been wanting a new large screen TV for the past year and I think it's time.

Still haven't ordered my Berkey water filter - that may not happen until after Christmas.

Anyhoo ~~ liquids, liquids, liquids.

Oh - and those LED solar flashlights if I can find them!

AND start reading the BOM - it's definitely time for a refresher course.

What's your prep goal?

My goal is to read the prep books I have bought. Trying to put together a good resource library. Also to go shooting & get ready for my Front Sight trip. Unlike Mirk, I don't "enjoy" shooting - but it is a needful skill so I'm doing it.

Amen. I'm not hoping for more than that. I don't dare.

I would like to pass along the info in case any of you want to participate. I am ordering solar BoGo flashlights for my ward. Sunlightsolar in Texas sends these solar lights to third world countries. This is a non-profit so there is no tax and no shipping charges. The owner opened it up to preparedness specialists to order for their groups (ward, school, neighborhood--whatever you feel you could qualify for.) There is no minimum order. I have done a rolling order in the past year--some shipments had 10 lights and some had 50 lights. No shipping or tax ever. I love the lights. If you want to see them, go to their website www.sunnightsolar.com (http://www.sunnightsolar.com).

The light is normally $39. If you place the order and put it on YOUR credit card over the phone for everyone, it will be delivered about 4 days later fedex. You have to do the collecting from everyone.

Call number below and say you would like to place an order as a preparedness specialist.

Call: Mr. Kirk Weaver
5802 Val Verde St. Suite 100
Houston, Texas 77057
phone: 713-522-2320

Model SN-2 $20 each no tax, no shipping charge.

I have one in each car and one in my kitchen window where it stays charged.

I am also ordering square blue stackable water containers (5 gallon) from Industrial Container in Salt Lake City Utah. $5.05 each. Lid 0.50. If we order larger quantity (36+) the price drops to $4.76. They are located at 1845 South 5200 West
SLC Ut 84104 phone 801-972-1561

Hope this helps someone

Sept and Oct are my crazy months:

-We should be having our killing frosts here in another 10-14 days, so when that happens I'll be processing the Swiss Chard, beets and whatever tomatoes we have left. LOTS of green ones, so I see Green Tomato Pickles, Green Tomato Mincemeat and Picallili in my near future.
-Pull out all the dead plants, till the garden, prune bushes and trees, prep the compost for winter.
-Finish drying herbs and rose hips.
-Finish up herbal tinctures and put them away.
-Sauerkraut and kimchee should be done in a week or so, so then I'll put them away.
-Get root crops and squash into the basement.
-Finish making vermicomposting bin--just need to drill holes. The worms are due to arrive on Thurs or Fri this week. Get it set up in its winter home: the basement.
-Finish seed gathering, prepping and labeling.

Last week I organized all the information I've been printing out and gathering on the different medicinal herbs I have (or want to have, someday.) This week I hope to make some more lotions, salves, etc. and make my tea mixes and put them into tins (many will be Christmas gifts. I found 2 cute "tea-for-one" pots--tea pot and cup that nest together--at a thrift store for $3, also found some cute, star-shaped tea balls on clearance, so I'll have some nice Christmas gifts to give that won't cost me much.)

Then the first week of Nov I have a big Preparedness display to do for Stake Conference. And today the Stake Pres'y threw me a curve ball--they want our next Preparedness Fair to be in Grand Forks, about 80 mi away. So I'll have a new batch of people to work with and doing everything long distance. But it will be OK.

I finally have my VHF/UHF ham radio antenna AND feedline. So, my plan is to get them setup this month. I think I actually have enough cable to do 2 runs. If so, then I will. I want to setup my base station AND my repeater.

I hear the Water Bob is a great way to store water in your tube in the case of an emergency for a few days.

bad thing about WaterBOB is it is a 1 time use only. Also, it only works if you have some warning about the desaster.

I've looked at it at ARC before, but always thought $29 was too much for it. I see that waterbob.com has it for $19.

Big disappointment. Lowe's and Home Depot are both sold out. I knew somebody would get there before me! :frown (3):

I continue to fill empty plastic litter jugs & bleach bottles, but that's about it for this month.

It's so strange - when I look at all I have, I feel comfortable. But when I hear bad news, I feel totally unprepared and feel I need 2x when we already have. Go figure.

I'm planning to order some more heritage seeds. AND... some more Advil, Tylenol, and OTC cold medicine. Heard a segment on Fox and Friends last week where a doctor said that a presciption will be required (hidden in Obamahealthcare) for most OTC drug items. Also Deet and the like. There was more, but I was busy. Haven't looked into it further, but intend to.

Thanks for the heads up. I have at least a 1-year supply of all that, but maybe I'll hit WalMart and get another 1-year supply. I try to rotate that stuff so it doesn't get outdated, but my doctor said the expiration date means nothing (except to the company, cuz they make money when you dump it and buy newer stuff).

If its what I'm aware of, it will require a prescription to use a Health Savings Account to buy OTC drug items.
