Any truth about the gas spraying on them? never heard of that . Its gasoline I am guessing?

No, it isn't gasoline but it is a gas that they spray into the buildings where they store the potatoes and it keeps them from sprouting.

I have on idea if this is true or not. I have checked the "net" and have found information of a potato shortage in Europe and other individual countries such as some in Africa, but not in the US...yet.

Yes, they do infuse potato cellars with a gas to retard sprouting... I don't know more than that though.
