Pool Shock to purify water

Does anyone have any experience with this? I can't find a good recipe. Everyone seems to use the government agency recipe that says "a heaping teaspoon HC". I'd like to find something a little more precise in measurement.

Never actually used it myself, but was told there is a guide that explains the dilution rate to make it into a "typical" store bought bleach, then you'd use whatever the standard bleach measurement is to purify water.
