I hope there's a Santa, because these are expensive:

It's called a Harsch fermenting crock. Look how cool they work:

I actually want about 3-4 of the 15 and 20 ltr sizes. Those sizes cost around $200+. :eek6: After reading the books about preserving w/o canning or freezing and tasting how yummy that food is, I really, really want these. (Oops! I'm coveting. I suppose I need to repent. :o )

And I thought fermenting was just a crock. :sifone:

NONE of my pickling cucumber plants made it. So very bummed.

Yay for pickles!

Don't be too hard on yourself, Prairiemom. I'm "coveting" <COVETING>a portable toilet as a present. Can't wait to see how my husband wraps that one! A couple of months ago there was a waterworks accident in my neighborhood and we had no water for about 12 hours. I had bottled water to drink, of course, but there was no way to flush the toilet. I improvised with a garbage can. This convinced me of what I want Santa to bring!

Buffie--Emergency Essentials has a toilet seat for a 5 or 6 gallon pail for $16.95 this month. Put a heavy-duty garbage bag in it, or put a little water and Chlorox in the bottom. We used one for 3 months for night use in our tent, camping in Vermont in 2006...dumped it in the porta-toilet we had rented and placed 60 feet from our tent. I kept a gallon of water and a bottle of Chlorox in the porta to rinse the bucket when I dumped it.
