I recently placed an order for some of their canned meats, cheese & butter.

We opened a can of the bacon - just to see if it's something we want to store.

Oh my gosh - it's excellent! It's not something we'd use every day cuz it's expensive, but it's definitely going in my storage.

I picked up a case of it about 8 months ago. I love diversity, so I had to have some, but the price :scared: definitely dictates it be held for special occasions.

I think when funds allow, I'll add another case... just because. :thumbup1:

You must've been reading my mind! I'm ordering another case of the bacon, butter and cheese. The butter and cheese are still on sale!

I did order some of the canned meat, also - beef, pork, turkey, chicken, ground beef. A case of each. :l0 (5): Haven't tried any of that yet, but somebody here said the ground beef was good.

I like it. It's a couple of dollars cheaper over at mredepot.com. We use the Red Feather butter all the time. I need to order more.

The butter is really good, and I definitely like their cheese -- I'd have it all the time if DW would let me! (I really shouldn't be eating much of that stuff, blah!)

How do you fix/use the canned cheese?

Is the canned bacon already cooked?

You just had to give me a new website, didn't ya? :willy_nilly:

Oh my gosh...Oh my gosh...Oh my gosh - they have canned cakes and chocolate and all sorts of good stuff.

I'd better go water my Money Tree. :l0 (13):

The bacon is already cooked. I heated it up briefly (30 seconds) in the microwave. (Just so ya know - I heated some for 1 minute and it burned)

Tonight we're having bacon & eggs - I'll heat it up in the skillet tonight.

It's excellent!

I haven't tried the cheese yet, but somebody here said it makes good grilled cheese and sandwiches, so I ordered a case. :l0 (51):

I'm such a Sheep where food storage is concerned. :rolleyes (2):

Good tip for the canned butter and cheese.....

cut both the top and bottom off the can and use one lid to push the product out of can.

I have all three items in my storage as well.

Think of the barter power of bacon after everyone in camp has eaten wheat paste and gruel for a while since all they stored was the basics.....

LOL

That's how I got the bacon out of the can last night.

Barter Power......Hm.....hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe a few more cases wouldn't hurt. :l0 (8):

"in camp" ? Exactly what "camp" are we talkin' about? :001_ssuprised:

Well I do not want to be connected with the heathen tentite followers...:)

I just always envision the possible future scenarios where resources are shared as having to gather centrally to do so.

Even if those who are in need gather at the ward buildings as they are in Haiti, it translates as a camp atmosphere in my mind.

No need to look too deep. LOL

Also, you will see at any preparedness site that most are going to store away a case of whickey or cigarettes for bartering should we ever reach the trigger point.

I think that BAcon simmering on a frying pan will have more barter power than can be imagined in a situation where food and especially meat is in very short supply.

For instance in London during WWII, I would think canned bacon would have been a premium luxury....

Hmm-mm. Have been thinking about jar canning my solid shortening to lengthen shelf life, also some lard. Bet I can put cooked bacon up with melted lard. We have a good store of our own canned hamburg, pork and chicken now. If you buy it when on sale, it is much cheaper than the commercial canned meats. Must admit that I stock up on Spam and canned hams, though.

Would we be allowed to drink the whisky if we were really, really sick? Cuz I remember once my mom made me drink hot tea (after getting permission from the Bishop, of course!) when I was sick.

I imagine coffee would be in high demand, too!

Really - I was teasing about the "camp" - I couldn't help myself, since I have no intention of leaving my home with cases of bacon under each arm.

I'll bet you could. I could just KICK myself for getting rid of all my old canning jars.

From the link I found about Tactical Bacon.......:vork:

Bacon will save you

The season is summer, not sure the month. We've been holed up in TG HQ for seven years now. The zombies have fought long and hard, but the tide is seeming to finally turn. We will survive this invasion, this walking pestilence. We will, because we were smart enough to stock up on Tac Bac - Tactical Canned Bacon. Yes, we have been surviving on bacon. That is why we are strong; that is why we'll win.

Why not spend the money and storage space on something that you could use? Also, do you really want to attract drunks to your house / tent :) looking for their next drink?

I have no tactical Bacon. My Bacon is more of a strategic item.

Actually, black tea has enough tannin in it to be a good remedy for diarrhea. Doctors in Japanese prisoner-of-war camps fought dysentry by boiling the inner bark of oaks to give to the sufferers. I have a stash of black tea in my storage.
